Transferring is from hospital to hospital (or receiving center) also called Inter-Facility Transfer (IFT).
Ambulance personnel are not classified as ‘peace officers’. However, transport personnel are acting as agents of the person who wrote the 5150 Hold and is “causing the person to be transported” to a facility. A person remains on a 5150 Hold during transport or transfer.
An individual placed under a 5150 hold should NOT be advised that there is no charge for ambulance transport or other aspects of the treatment and evaluation since the Welfare & Institutions Code specifically states that the individual is financially responsible for this psychiatric evaluation.
