Who Can Write a (5150) Hold
Lake County

Lake

All law enforcement officers have the legal authority to write a 5150 hold pursuant to WIC 5150.

In addition, it allows for the Lake County Behavioral Health Director to designate qualified individuals who have successfully completed the department’s 5150 training program to designate them as being authorized to conduct 5150 evaluations in Lake County, and receive a county badge (this badge allows staff at the facility that the individual is being evaluated at to identify staff as having the authority to conduct the evaluation).

Evaluation Requests: Lake County Behavioral Health respond to 5150 assessment requests from peace officers and hospital staff (Sutter Lakeside and Adventist Health Clear Lake) and require the Jail to send any perspective 5150 individuals to Sutter Lakeside ED. Response time is generally within one hour.

The majority of the requests from both hospitals come from the Emergency Department, but Lake County Behavioral Health also responds to evaluation requests from other hospital departments (i.e., Med-Surg, ICU).

CRISIS TEAM: LCBH has a crisis worker available for response 24-hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. There is also an on-call crisis supervisor available for telephone consultation as needed 24/7. Both the crisis worker and on-call supervisor can be contacted at the main office, (707) 994-7090, during normal business hours (8am-5pm Monday through Friday, excluding Holiday’s) and through the LCBH answering service, (844) 265-7101, after hours.
