Subject: Medical Control

Radio Communication

Policy: 1. Only currently certified Authorized Registered Nurses and/or

Emergency Physicians may receive report from or give prehospital

care instructions to prehospital care personnel.

2. All personnel who qualify to operate the radio must fill out a

radio report on each ambulance call. The Medical Control Hospital

shall maintain records of communications between the service pro-

viders and the hospital through tape recordings and through

emergency department communication logs sufficient to allow for

medical control and continuing education of the EMT-II. The tape

recordings and communication logs will be retained by the Nurse

Coordinator until the applicable charts are evaluated in the

chart review session. If any problems are identified in the chart

review session that are to be referred to North Coast EMS for

resolution, the tape recordings and communication logs will be

kept available until North Coast EMS notifies the hospital in

writing that they are no longer needed.
