Subject: Training

New Personnel Orientation and Field Preceptorship

for EMT-II and EMT-P Personnel

C. North Coast Emergency Medical Services Policies and Procedures.

II. Purpose

To ensure orientation of new EMT-II and EMT-P personnel to the EMS system in the North Coast EMS region.

III. New Personnel Orientation Procedure

A. The Service Provider Liaison or his/her designee will orient prospective EMT-II and EMT-P personnel to field operations, including, but not limited to:

1. Field radio operation.

2. Documentation of ambulance calls using Prehospital Care Reports, the prehospital data system, Radio Delay/Failure reporting procedures, and other necessary forms.

3. North Coast EMS Policies and Procedures.

4. State Mandated Curriculum on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Training, unless the individual has documented evidence of having received this training.

5. North Coast EMS Rural Trauma System Orientation (in areas where there is base hospital participation), START Triage, and MCI/ICS System.

6. North Coast EMS recommends that all EMT-II and EMT-P personnel be oriented to base hospital operations.

B. The Field Service Provider New Personnel Orientation shall be at least four (4) hours in length, but must not exceed eight (8) hours.

C. All individuals requesting EMT-II certification or EMT-P accreditation must ride with a North Coast EMS-approved ALS ambulance as a third person to successfully complete at least five (5) supervised and evaluated LALS/ALS patient contacts. The evaluation must be performed by a North Coast EMS-authorized Field Training Officer (FTO). EMT-II or EMT-P students who have completed at least ten (10) field internship patient contacts, within the North Coast EMS region and evaluated by a North Coast EMS-authorized FTO, during his/her training, may submit to North Coast EMS copies of those evaluated contacts along with the associated PCRs to complete this requirement.

D. Successful completion of New Personnel Orientation shall be documented on a North Coast EMS Orientation Form and be submitted to North Coast EMS prior to certification, authorization or accreditation.

 

E. This policy requirement may be waived at the discretion of the North Coast EMS Medical Director for those EMT-P accreditation applicants who have been certified as EMT-IIs in the North Coast EMS region prior to EMT-P certification.
