POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Field Care Audits (Chart Reviews) - Attendance

I. Authority and Reference (incorporated herein by references)

B. California Code of Regulations, Title 22.
C. North Coast Emergency Medical Services Policies and Procedures.
II. Purpose
To establish the procedure for maintaining Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)-II certification within the North Coast EMS region through attendance of field care audits.
III. Procedure
A. Each EMT-II must attend organized field care audits of recorded or written patient care records for no less than twelve (12) hours every two (2) years. The required twelve (12) hours of attendance at the field care audits must be obtained at a base hospital or alternative base station within the North Coast EMS region.
B. EMT-IIs may obtain a maximum of twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education every two (2) years for attending field care audits.
IV. Responsibilities
A. The EMT-II shall attend the appropriate field care audits to maintain certification.
B. The Prehospital Care Nurse Coordinator shall submit the field care audit attendance sheet to North Coast EMS on a monthly basis.
C. The Prehospital Care Nurse Coordinator shall distribute course completion records to attendees to document attendance at field care audits (following the State prehospital continuing education guidelines) for recertification purposes.
D. The EMT-II will notify North Coast EMS if (s)he works as an EMT-II for more than one (1) provider.
E The EMT-II shall obtain and submit to North Coast EMS documentation of sufficient field care audit attendance prior to recertification.
V. Verification
North Coast EMS may audit EMT-II records to assure that field care audit attendance requirements have been met.
