Albuterol Sulfate Protocol

- Class:
- Beta-2 specific bronchodilator.
Indications:- Acute bronchial asthma.
- Bronchospasm associated with bronchitis or emphysema.
Therapeutic Effects:- Decreases reversible bronchospasm.
Contraindications:- Absolute: Known hypersensitivity.
- Relative:
- Hypertension.
- Coronary artery disease.
- Congestive heart failure.
- Convulsive disorders.
- Hyperthyroidism.
- Diabetes.
- Pregnancy.
- Tricyclic antidepressant use.
Adverse Effects:- Most frequent adverse effects include tachycardia and tremors.
- Less frequent adverse effects include headache, hypertension, cough, and nausea.

Special Information:- Medication doses can be modified only by Base Order. For severe bronchospasm, undiluted medication can be considered.
- Treatments can be repeated as needed. Use caution with large doses, may exacerbate pre-existing diabetes and ketoacidosis.
